The Rabbi Myron S. Geller
United Synagogue Fuchsberg Center Gemilut Hesed
Project
“Everyone is in need of loving- kindness”
(Bereshit Rabba 60:2)
The United Synagogue Fuchsberg Center Gemilut Hesed Project connects United
Synagogue members visiting Israel with a choice of meaningful volunteer
opportunities based on individual interests and time availability. The
projects include assisting seniors, serving meals in soup kitchens, assisting
physically handicapped youth and adults, preparing and delivering care
packages to soldiers, helping developmentally disabled adults, lending
a hand at the coalition for Israel's missing soldiers, and much more.
As part of the Gemilut Hesed Project, the Fuchsberg Jerusalem Center collects
supplies for distribution to various social service agencies in Israel.
The staff at the Center can arrange for visitors to deliver the supplies
to these agencies, to meet the dedicated people involved, and to learn
about their work. Visitors who are pressed for time can simply bring the
supplies directly to the Center, and participants in Center programs will
be happy to deliver them.
The following items are needed for distribution:
- Clothing for Ethiopian children in an absorption
center.
- Toys and games – for a clubhouse for children
battling cancer and for Ethiopian children and children in women’s
shelters.
- Used and new eyeglasses - for a non profit clinic.
- Used wedding dresses and new make up – for needy
brides.
- Small gifts and presents – for children hospitalized
after terrorist attacks.
- Clothing for babies and children - for Jerusalem’s
needy.
- Used and new clothing for adults – for Jerusalem’s
needy.
- Dental supplies: floss, toothbrushes, small toothpastes,
latex gloves- for a free dental clinic.
- Toiletries and new makeup for women at a women's
shelter.
- Small travel supplies: little deodorants, disposable
razors and shaving cream, packages of hard candy (kosher) and thermal
underwear - for care packages for soldiers.
